Saturday Night Fever: Top 10 Dance Crazes

We have the addictive songs that we constantly sing in each others ears then we have the dances that simultaneously hypnotize every existing human who stands on this earth. This post describes personally the Top 10 Dance Crazes so far. Now it was quite a difficult decision as many entertainers have created such dance phenomenon but the choices have been made the winner has been decided.

10. Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes - KIG
Know I'm sure you all know the title off the classical nursery rhyme that we were forced to sing and dance to but who ever knew that one day teenagers and grown people would be dancing the nursery tune in the middle of London streets? Yes, 2009 was the year when Myspace dominated the internet, Grime was in its prime and young school girls were rocking the slicked hairstyles acting ratchet on the streets. The K.I.G record stormed across the underground channels (When Channel AKA and Starz was Channel U and Fizz TV respectively) and airwaves and even charted with the iTunes Top 100, prompting club promoters to play the funky tune and more UK crazes to follow on. SMH
9. Azonto
A dance which orginated in Ghana caused quite a storm between summer 2011 to earlier this year. The Ghanaian dance reflects the creativity, intelligence and sense of humor of the people.
The dance became popular by two dancers who were seen performing the dance amongst the people and famous streets of London and this has led to even Misha B incorprating the West African dance within her MOBO Award performance.
8. Cha Cha Slide- DJ Casper
Originally used for aerobic exercise classes in '96, The Cha Cha Slide grew in popularity in 2000 when Universal ecords picked up the track and promoted worldwide causing adults and even young children to perform the instructed song. The song charted at #1 in the UK and Top 100 elsewhere. Even though he became a one hit wonder, at least he promoted the fun size of excerising. =)
7. Soulja Boy - Crank That
Before the crack and weed medded him up, 17 year old Soulja Boy had the world at his oyster when he released Crank That. Originally released on YouTube, Soulja caused a storm on the internet which led to his TV appearances, a recording contract with Interscope, endorsements and a lot of travelling to the bank. The song chartred quite well in the charts, reaching #1 on the Billbord Hot 100 and R&B/Hip Hop charts and #2 in the UK.
The dance became even popular when the likes of Lil Wayne and Beyonce performed it as part of their tours!!!
6. Madonna - Vogue
The fashionable themed song has indefinitely become one of the greatest videos of all time in terms of its editing and cinematography. It still remains a classic and was noticeably a heavy influence on Lady Gaga's Alejandro.
5. Usher - U-Turn
Heavily inspired by MJ himself and he never hid that. Usher always managed to incorporate one of MJ's iconic moves in his music videos to the point where he had the opportunity to performed with the man himself  at his 30th Anniversay
but his 90s hit 'U-Turn had got all the kids putting their hands up and bending their knees like that little boy in the video.
4 Britney Spears - One More Time
Its Britney Bitch!! Once teenager Britney was slaying the industry with her 'guilty pleasure' songs and slick choreography and One More Time was just one of the songs that led to grown women (and men) dressing up as slutty school children and imitating the dances. Maybe it was cool back then *shrugs shoulders*
3. Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation
The military based dance video involves genius choreography performed to it ultimate perfection. Janet Jackson made sure that not one flaw was shown at any cause, with her and her back-up dancing in unison at such a high energy making it look impossible to imitate but she has undoubtedly inspired the many talented females who come after her like Ciara, Aaliyah and Beyonce. Even her brother Michael admitted that her routines performed, inspired his performances.
2. Beyonce - Single Ladies
If you lived throughout Beyonce's career you would notice that with every album she always creates that one music video that causes mayhem amongst fans. She has Crazy In Love with the infamous 'Uh-Oh', Upgrade U, Diva & End Of Time but none had lived up to the same impact as Single Ladies.
The 'Irreaplaceale' singer took inspiration from Bob Fosse's routine entitled 'Mexican Breakfast' and liberally adapted the choreography in the simplistic yet empowering video which has now become one of today's most iconic videos.
1. Michael Jackson
Who can ever replace the legendary Michael Jackson? Now with Michael, I couldn't just put my finger on which video to pick for this post because with every move, video and performance he slayed he always evolved. Michael Jackson was probably one of the  gifted talents to ever come across such a shady business and despite how he was depicted in the media he still remained consistent and pleased his fans with his presence. One of my favorite videos would have to be Thriller because the technology we have today was probably non-existent back when the halloween-themed visual was shot so he and his team used their own initiative and the little resources they had to film the GREATEST video of ALL TIME!!

The choreography matched the video perfectly, the whole concept just flowed so smoothly...just ughh.
Why did you have to leave so soon? Anywhoo, here are some of his best work which has inspired millions of artists from Kanye to JLS.

His legacy will live on forever...
