Interview: Honey Cocaine Talks To Vibe Magazine

Would you believe she's only 19 years old?!
I know many may not of heard of Honey Cocaine and must be thinking what kind of ghetto name is 'Honey Cocaine'? Well, Honey Cocaine is a female rapper from Toronto who had been recording freestyle videos on YouTube where she had gradually gained publicity and fans who had been tweeting her videos to Tyga but it was her remix to his recent hit single 'Rack City' that had caught is eyes and lets just say the rest is history. =)
Anywhoo, VIBE magazine had recently had a catch-up with the Asian femcee where she had elaborated on the background behind her stage name, who influences her, her mixtape F*ck Yo Feelings Vol. 1 and her loyal fan base (#TeamHoneyCocaine all day b*tches!!).
Read some excerpts below:
VIBE: How did you come up with the name Honey Cocaine?
HC: Honey Cocaine is a metaphor. It means sweet and addicting music. Honey is the filling inside and cocaine is the raw outside, it’s like the real hip-hop. Honey is me as a girl.
Do you have any key influences?
Yeah, Tupac. Tupac is my number one. He was one of the first artists I listened to as a kid. Even before I spoke English, I listened to Tupac. I didn’t even know what he was saying, but something about his voice, about the beats. I know he’s saying something. The same songs I listened to when I was three or four, I can listen to right now like it’s a new song.
What was the idea behind your mixtape, F*ck Your Feelings Vol. 1?
[Laughs] I had that idea for a long time, that entire blueprint of my mixtape for a long time. I just didn’t know when to release it, as in set dates. But, I’d been working on it for a year, before I even linked up with Tyga. I decided to do a mixtape called F*ck Your Feelings. This was because I was going through a rough patch in my teenage life. It was problems in my neighborhood, where I live, and the area I went to school. People weren’t fucking with me for some reason. It was because one day last year, I woke up and I was like, you know what, “I have to stop worrying about partying, going shopping and shit. I have priorities. I’m about to be 19 years old” and then I just changed. People were like “Honey ain’t fucking with us anymore. Honey thinks she’s too good.” But I was like “Nah, I’m just setting an example for you guys.” There was so much of drama going on. Teenage girls; you know how we are. [Laughs] But I was like, “Yo, fuck your feelings. I don’t even care anymore.” So, all of those songs are to all of the bitches that dissed me because I was trying to respect myself.
If you weren’t rapping, what do you think you’d be doing?
Shit. Nail Salon. I love doing nails. That’s so Asian of me. [Laughs] I love doing nails. I love doing hair. I probably would be an Aesthetician. Shit, I need Aesthetician in my life.
What would you say is your ultimate goal as an artist?
I just want to blow. I just want to be big. I want to be everywhere. I want to be known. I want every single person to know Honey Cocaine. I want my face to be everywhere. I want to be an icon! I think I have the potential to do that as long as I keep the right people around me, keep the right mindset and stay motivated, always being hungry. It’s the hunger I have right now; I promise to my fans, my hunger will never die. That’s where people go wrong. They get comfortable. There’s always something left to do.
How does it feel to have such a loyal fan base?
It’s like the best feeling in the world, knowing that when I speak, rap, or make comments, people are listening to me. It’s such a great feeling, like I’m not alone. There’s people who love me, can relate to me, and there’s nothing more I could ask for from #TeamHoneyCocaine.

 Feel Shit.
